IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: Those who support a woman’s supposed "right" to end the life of her unborn child might want to reflect on how they will be able to explain their position to the victims of abortion when we meet them face to face in the next life – which we most certainly will.
Suggested prayer: For a greater awareness of the sacredness of each human life, regardless of age, development or condition, we pray.

FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: What Our Heavenly Father said to Jesus in today’s Gospel.  "You are my beloved.  My favor rests on you" is said to each of us.  We don’t earn this love; it is given freely.  The unconditional love we experience in our families is sacramental for it gives us a glimpse of God’s freely given, all accepting love.

CONFIRMATION: St. Joseph Confirmation will be held on May 2nd, 2009 at the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral at 12 noon.  All candidates names must be submitted to Joyce, in the parish office, by January 16, 2009.

INFORMATION FROM THE BISHOP - SEX AND CELL PHONES: The onslaught of pornography on the Internet which is now available to cell phones and hand held devices is a grave threat to our children and families.  RAAP, Religious Alliance Against Pornography, has developed and is making available a booklet to assist parents entitled, "“Sex and Cell Phones – Protect Your Children."  You are free to download this booklet from the Internet.  Go to icarecoalition.org, click on Resources, then click on "Sex and Cell Phones."

ST. JOSEPH’S WEBSITE: Check out our new website at www.stjosephstoledo.org.  It is only in its beginning stages, but already quite promising and useful.  We will be developing it slowly to make it a tool for everybody in the parish, staff and parishioners alike!  The website vision?  Resources for reception of first sacraments and other religious education for youth and adults; excerpts from Sunday homilies, in text and perhaps streaming audio; sacraments information; photographs of important celebrations; significant links for Catholics; Latin and English Mass prayers in preparation for and after Mass, in text and streamed audio for Latin; prayers at the foot of the altar, in text and streamed audio for Latin (especially for altar servers’ practice); electronic bulletin and more.

WORD OF LIFE: "Parental Notification and informed consent precautions would be outlawed [under FOCA], as would be laws banning procedures such as partial-birth abortion and protecting infants born alive after a failed abortion.  Abortion clinics would be deregulated.  The Hyde Amendment restricting the federal funding of abortions would be abrogated.  FOCA would have lethal consequences for prenatal human life."

HANDOUT NEXT WEEKEND: Next weekend we will be handing out a three strip postcard to each adult, addressed to our Senators and Representative concerning FOCA.   We ask you to take them home, sign them, fill out the name of our Senators and Representative, put on a stamp and mail on January 26th.  Our Senators are Sherrod Brown and George Voinovich and our Representative is Marcy Kaptur.  This is being done by all the Dioceses of the United States. Our postcards were provided by our Diocese Catholic Charities.  Let your voice be heard.
