IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: The farmers of the Declaration of Independence asserted that all human beings have inalienable rights, bestowed on them by any human power, but by their Creator.  Those who hold a more exclusionary view need to explain why we should divide humanity into those who have moral value and those who do not.  This moral line-drawing poses a serious threat to the dignity and rights of other poor and vulnerable members of the human family who need and deserve our respect and protection.
Suggested prayer: For all fathers that they may accept responsibility for the new life they helped create, we pray

Ed. Credit from Diocese is in process.  Cost is $45.00 including lunch and all the materials you will need to present to a group yourself.  This is also a presentation that is, itself, a Bible Study, for anyone who is interested in learning and growing, but not in presenting.  Limited seating.  For full details, or  to register, go to www.journeythroughscripture.com.  (You must enter this in your browser; search engines won’t work.)  Or call 419-532-2204.  Sponsored by Domus Angelorum Retreat House, Cloverdale, OH.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: There is a nationwide effort to pass laws requiring abortion providers to offer a woman the opportunity to view an ultrasound image of her unborn child.  One physician states:  “Allowing a patient to view her ultrasound examination implies respect for the dignity and autonomy of a patient, and her ability to participate wisely in her own plan of care.”  (The Southern Cross, August, 2008)
Suggested prayer: For all those who give their time and treasure to women experiencing an unexpected pregnancy, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: The key words in today’s gospel were spoken to Jesus by the leper:  ‘IF YOU WISH, YOU CAN!”  How many people are waiting to be “made clean” by your understanding and forgiveness?  Remember:  IF YOU WISH, YOU CAN!

ST. JOSEPH’S WEBSITE: Check out our new website at www.stjosephstoledo.com.

Philiposki & The Toledo Polish Genealogical Society.  Titled Toledo’s Polonia, cost $21.99 and can be purchased at St. Adalbert Parish, or order online www.arcadiapublishing.com.

ST ROSE PASTOR TO LEAD PILGRIMAGE TO ITALY: Father Marv Borger, pastor of St. Rose Parish, Perrysburg, is leading a pilgrimage to Italy on September 21, 2009 to October 2, 2009.    Cities to be visited include Rome, Vatican City, Florence, Assisi, Cascia, Norcia and Siena.  Four star hotels and non-stop flights from Detroit to Rome and return.  Mass will be celebrated daily.  It will be a beautiful time of the year to see Italy.  Members of St. Joseph Parish are welcome to participate.  To obtain a brochure with all the details call or e-mail Fr. IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: Protection of innocent human life is not an imposition of personal conviction but a demand of justice.  “Each human being is known by God and loved by Him.  Each is willed by God, and each is God’s image…whoever violates a human being violates God’s property.”  (Pope Benedict XVI)
Suggested prayer: That those who perform abortions may realize their sin and ask God for forgiveness,  we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Today we celebrate World Marriage Day.  Marriage is a healing sacrament because everyone comes to marriage with flaws of which we are ashamed.  Marital love allows us to admit our flaws and to see our value through the accepting eyes of our spouse.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: Seeing in an ultrasound the unborn child she is carrying has been a powerful influence on women contemplating abortion.  One study showed 75.5 percent of undecided women decided not to have an abortion after viewing her baby’s ultrasound.  (The Southern Cross, August, 2008)
Suggested prayer: For leaders of all churches that they may show concern for protecting the most vulnerable among us, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Today’s gospel reminds us “unclean spirits” still haunt our families.  These “spirits” thrive inside our grudges, punishing silence, impatience and abruptness.  Today Jesus offers you the “authority” to cast out these spirits from your life and your family.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: When does a human life begin?  When is there a new living organism of the human species, distinct from mother and father and ready to develop and mature is given a nurturing environment?  While ancient thinkers had little verifiable knowledge to help them answer this question, today the science of embryology confirms beyond a doubt that a new human life begins at conception.
Suggested prayer: For all women who carry within them the precious gift of life, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: It must have been difficult for Zebedee to watch his own sons walk away and follow Jesus.  It was the end of  ‘Zebedee and Sons Fishing Inc.’ and he surely enjoyed working each day alongside his boys.  Our children are never ours.  They are only on loan to us.  We raise them to let them go.

ST. JOSEPH’S WEBSITE: Check out our new website at www.stjosephstoledo.com. It is only in its beginning stages, but already quite promising and useful. We will be developing it slowly to make it a tool for everybody in the parish, staff and parishioners alike! The website vision? Resources for reception of first sacraments and other religious education for youth and adults; excerpts from Sunday homilies, in text and perhaps streaming audio; sacraments information; photographs of important celebrations; significant links for Catholics; Latin and English Mass prayers in preparation for and after Mass, in text and streamed audio for Latin; prayers at the foot of the altar, in text and streamed audio for Latin (especially for altar servers’ practice); electronic bulletin and more.

WORD OF LIFE: "If the election is misinterpreted ideologically as a referendum on abortion, the unity desired by President-elect Obama and all Americans at this moment of crisis will be impossible to achieve.  Abortion kills not only unborn children; it destroys constitutional order and the common good, which is assured only when the life of every human being is legally protected.  Aggressively pro-abortion policies, legislation and executive orders will permanently alienate tens of millions of Americans, and would be seen by many as an attack on the free exercise of their religion."

FOCA POSTCARDS: FOCA postcards are available on the back radiators. If you did not receive one last weekend, please take a strip and send them to our Senators and Representative. Our Senators are Sherrod Brown and George Voinovich and our Representative is Marcy Kaptur.

LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR are here this weekend to ask for your help.  They  come here once a year and in past years you have always been generous.  We ask again that this year you be generous and come to the Little Sisters aid.  The sisters will speak after Holy Communion at each Mass.

MASS FOR SHUT-IN’S: Fr. Poggemeyer will be the celebrant for the Mass for Shut In’s February 1st and 8th,  WTOL TV,  Channel 11, at  11:00 A.M.

IRS STATEMENTS are now available. Write IRS on the FRONT of your envelope and one will be sent to you that week.
