IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: “To claim the right to abortion, infanticide and euthanasia, and to recognize that right in law, means to attribute to human freedom a perverse and evil significance; that of an absolute power over others and against others.”
Suggested prayer: That families facing an untimely pregnancy may turn to God for help and strength, we pray.

MISSION AWARENESS WEEKEND: This weekend is our annual mission appeal for the work of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.  Deacon David Jordan,  representing the Office of Global  Concerns, is here this weekend.  “Go to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples:  Baptize them…, Teach them… And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”  We have all been commissioned by Jesus to bring his gospel to everyone, but for many the great commission is more “the great omission”, because we just don’t do it.  Let’s join in the mission of Jesus by becoming members of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! TWO YOUNG MEN’S RETREATS are being organized and directed by Fr. Adam Hertzfeld and Toledo seminarians.  The retreats are for the purpose of helping young men to get away to get some solid prayer and spiritual talks.  They are not necessarily for men who think they will be priests, but rather have the goal of helping young men draw closer to Jesus and grow in their desire to follow Him, wherever it is that He leads them vocationally.  The retreats will include mass and confessions, as well as plenty of food and some sports.  Some logistics still have to be worked out, especially the places solidified.  The retreat for young men in grades 7-8 will be July 10th-12th (Friday evening through Sunday morning).  The retreat for men in grades 9-12 will be June 26th-28th.

HEARTBEAT OF TOLEDO a pro-life pregnancy center, is once again sponsoring its “Change for Changing Lives of Mothers and Babies” baby bottle campaign.  Please start gathering that loose change from home and car, relatives and friends, and pick up a baby bottle after Mass on the weekend of March 14th and 15th.

STAND & PRAY - Lent 2009: Take your Lenten prayer and fasting to a new level this year by joining others in peaceful prayer outside Center for Choice, 328 22nd St., Toledo, from Ash Wednesday through Good Friday.  Come and pray any time it’s convenient to you, but the most helpful times are: Mon., Tues. & Wed. 8a.m -5p.m; Thurs. 2-10p.m.; Fri. 8a.m.-1p.m.  For more information, contact Ann at 419-708-9497 or visit www.prolifeconnection.com.

HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE: Join Franciscan Friar, Fr. Alex Kratz, on a Catholic Pilgrimage to the Holy Land April 20-May 4, 2009.  This life-changing experience, walking in Jesus’ footsteps includes daily Mass and the Rosary, biblical readings at the Holy Places, time for prayer and spiritual guidance, Sunday Masses at local Catholic parishes and other cultural experiences.  Our complete 14 day package for $3,500 includes round-trip air from Detroit, hotels, 3 daily meals and all sight seeing taxes and tips.  For more info on this all-inclusive pilgrimage call at 248-423-3600 or visit the website at www.TerraSanctaPilgrimages.org.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: “One day…our nation will…look back on what we have been doing to innocent human beings within their mothers as a crime no less heinous that what was approved by the Supreme Court in the ‘Dred Scott case’ in the 19th century, and no less heinous than what was perpetrated by Hitler and Stalin in the 20th.”  Cardinal Edward Egan in Catholic New York,  October 23, 2008.
Suggested prayer: For a greater commitment to the defense of innocent human life, we pray.

MISSION AWARENESS WEEKEND: Next weekend is our annual mission appeal for the work of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.  Deacon David Jordan, representing the Office of Global Concerns, will share with us on how we can help others to witness to the Gospel through our prayer and financial support of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.  Please be generous in helping others to have the Gospel preached and Eucharist celebrated.

ST JOSEPH MEAL SODALITY BEING FORMED: A group of parishioners, with Fr. Poggemeyer’s support and enthusiasm, is forming a sodality whose purpose will be to provide meals for those who are suffering from illness, bereavement, or who have just had a new baby.  If you are interested in joining our effort in this much needed parish endeavor, please join us on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 7:00p.m. at Panera Bread on Central Avenue.  We will be discussing a name for the Sodality and how to organize the “how to’s”.  Bring your ideas and organizational experience with you…the more, the better!  For more information, please contact Kathy Williams at 419-877-0392 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: The farmers of the Declaration of Independence asserted that all human beings have inalienable rights, bestowed on them by any human power, but by their Creator.  Those who hold a more exclusionary view need to explain why we should divide humanity into those who have moral value and those who do not.  This moral line-drawing poses a serious threat to the dignity and rights of other poor and vulnerable members of the human family who need and deserve our respect and protection.
Suggested prayer: For all fathers that they may accept responsibility for the new life they helped create, we pray

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: There is a nationwide effort to pass laws requiring abortion providers to offer a woman the opportunity to view an ultrasound image of her unborn child.  One physician states:  “Allowing a patient to view her ultrasound examination implies respect for the dignity and autonomy of a patient, and her ability to participate wisely in her own plan of care.”  (The Southern Cross, August, 2008)
Suggested prayer: For all those who give their time and treasure to women experiencing an unexpected pregnancy, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: The key words in today’s gospel were spoken to Jesus by the leper:  ‘IF YOU WISH, YOU CAN!”  How many people are waiting to be “made clean” by your understanding and forgiveness?  Remember:  IF YOU WISH, YOU CAN!

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: Protection of innocent human life is not an imposition of personal conviction but a demand of justice.  “Each human being is known by God and loved by Him.  Each is willed by God, and each is God’s image…whoever violates a human being violates God’s property.”  (Pope Benedict XVI)
Suggested prayer: That those who perform abortions may realize their sin and ask God for forgiveness,  we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Today we celebrate World Marriage Day.  Marriage is a healing sacrament because everyone comes to marriage with flaws of which we are ashamed.  Marital love allows us to admit our flaws and to see our value through the accepting eyes of our spouse.
