IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

A BLESSED EASTER TO PARISHIONERS FROM FR. POGGEMEYER AND STAFF

DEAR PARISHIONERS:  HAPPY EASTER!  May the glory of the sacrificial love of God through the death and resurrection of His Son radiate powerfully in your lives throughout this season of Easter.  How right it was for us to sacrifice and do extra penance during Lent.  How appropriate it is for us now to take to heart and rejoice in the fact that the Resurrection has conquered our greatest enemy, death.  Many thanks to all of our parishioners who put extra time and resources into making our observance of Lent and Easter so beautiful: Musicians, altar boys, emcees, decorators, cleaners, etc., etc., etc.!

WELCOME & CONGRATULATIONS:  St. Joseph’s Parish gladly welcomes into the fullness of the Catholic Faith during the Easter Vigil, Rodney McHaffie.  Welcome and Congratulations!

CONGRATULATIONS to Paul Linder who has received 1st honors at Central Catholic High School.  Paul is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Brian Linder.  CONGRATULATIONS to Olivia Scarlett who has received 1st Honors at St Ursula.  Olivia is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Scarlett.

ATTENTION ALL GIRLS OF ST. JOSEPH’S PARISH: If you are preparing for or have received your First Holy Communion, you may participate in May Crowning on Sunday, May 3rd at the 10:30 A.M. Mass. LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA: Many of us don’t have the time to go to Bible Study or an Adult Education class, but now we can keep learning and growing in our faith wherever we are.  The CD’s available in the back of church are only $3.00 per CD.  What a simple and inexpensive way to turn your car or van into a chapel, your gym into a classroom, or your home into a place where you fall in love with God.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: “In today’s world of medical technology and pain control, the understandable fear of pain and death as one faces the end of  their life should never lead to suicide – physician-assisted or otherwise.”  Jennifer Popic, J.D. Nrl News, Nov-Dec., 2008.
Suggested Prayer: That we may have the eyes to see the intrinsic value of every human life regardless of age or size or health, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Following Christ is not easy.  Like Jesus we will experience betrayal, denial, being ignored, falsely accused and left alone.  Even friends will “look on and afar.”  Family is the gift given to us so we never stand alone.  Being together is the stuff of holiness.

Remember Good Friday is a day of Fast & Abstinence.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: “The Christian tradition from the earliest days reveals a firm antiabortion attitude.  From apostolic times, the Christian tradition overwhelmingly held that abortion was grievously evil.”  Charles Chaput, OFM.Cap., Archbishop of Denver
Suggested Prayer: That we may have the eyes to see the intrinsic value of every human life regardless of age or size or health, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Today’s gospel teaches:  ‘Whoever loves his life, loses it.”  Letting go and death to self are keys to successful relationships.  If we hold-onto another too tightly, we smother them.  Unless we die to ourselves, we use others for our needs.  Hear Jesus today: “If the grain of wheat dies, there is much fruit.”  Family life and relationships require sacrifice.

ST. JOSEPH’S FIRST COMMUNION: Deadline is March 31st. If you haven’t already, please call the office if your child is going to make their First Communion this May 10th.

ST. JOSEPH’S MEAL SODALITY: Thank You to all of those who signed up to be Mary’s Helpers to parishioners who are in need of meals, whether it be for the birth of a new baby, the death of a loved one, or because one is elderly or handicapped or recently been in the hospital.  We presently have 28 parishioners assisting us in preparing meals at given times, but we are still in need of volunteer drivers to take meals to the requesting family (this service is not needed on every occasion).  Please let Kathy Williams (419-877-0392, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or Lisa Baldwin ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) know if you would be interested in helping in this way or by assisting with a meal.  Also, if you would like to request a meal(s), please notify Joyce Zielinski in the parish office.

HEARTBEAT OF TOLEDO: Please your return your Baby Bottles this weekend.

STAND AND PRAY -- LENT 2009: Take your Lenten prayer and fasting to a new level this year by joining others in peaceful prayer outside Center for Choice, 328 22nd St., Toledo, from Ash Wednesday through Good Friday.  Come and pray any time it’s convenient to you, but the most helpful times are:  Mon., Tues., & Wed: 8am-5pm; Thurs: 2-10pm; Fri: 8am-1pm.  For more info contact Ann at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: The prominent Lutheran pastor Dietrich Bobhoeffer clearly described the act of abortion:  “The simple fact is that God certainly intended to create a human being and that this nascent human being has been deliberately deprived of his life.  And that is nothing but murder.”
Suggested Prayer: That this nation may heed the words of those who speak about the humanity of the unborn, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Notice in today’s gospel:  “God so loved us, He GAVE his Son.”  Love is about GIVING, not getting!  Love is not selfish.  Lovers are givers with no strings attached.

ST. JOSEPH’S FIRST COMMUNION: We are fast approaching our First Communion weekend of May 10th.  Please review the First Communion policy already published to make sure you cover all the details regarding baptismal certificates and the letter explaining your child’s preparation.  Please contact Joyce Zielinski at the parish office no later than the end of March to let us know that you have a child who will be receiving First Communion, and to tell us which Mass that weekend you will be attending.  Finally, please confirm that you will be able to attend the brief retreat the prior morning.

ATTENTION GIRLS OF ST. JOSEPH’S PARISH: Totus Tuus Maria is a girls group that has formed with the approval of Fr. Poggemeyer. Any girls that have received their First Communion or older are welcome to join us in serving Our Lord and our parish community. For more information please contact Jenny Maxon at 419-385-5984 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA IS HERE!!: We are excited to announce that the CD program by Lighthouse Catholic Media is now available in the back of church.  These CD’s retail for $6.95, but we are asking for just a $3.00 donation for each of these life changing CD’s.  Some of the speakers you may recognize include Mother Theresa, Pope Benedict XVI, and Dr. Peter Kreft.  Please stop by and look at the CD’s and brochures.  Find out about the CD of the month.

HEARTBEAT OF TOLEDO: Please your return your Baby Bottles on the weekend of March 28th & 29th.

TWO YOUNG MEN’S RETREATS organized and directed by Fr. Adam Hertzfeld and Toledo seminarians.  The retreats are for the purpose of helping young men to get away to get some solid prayer and spiritual talks.  They are not necessarily for men who think they will be priests, but rather have the goal of helping young men draw closer to Jesus and grow in their desire to follow Him, wherever it is that He leads them vocationally.  The retreats will include Mass and Confessions, as well as plenty of food and some sports.  Some logistics still have to be worked out, especially the places solidified.  The retreat for young men in grades 6-8 will be July 10-12 (Friday evening through Sunday morning).  The retreat for men in grades 9-12 will by June 26-28.
