IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: “Assisted suicide sends a message to the terminally ill that caring for them is a waste of time, that their lives are no longer worth living and that they are better off dead.”  (Anthony Ozimic, political secretary of England’s Society for the Protection of unborn Children, NRL News, 1/09.
Suggested Prayers: That Christ, the Good Shepherd, may lead this nation back to respect for the dignity of each life, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: The gospel description of the Good Shepherd is job description for parenting.  Parents must “know” their children and “freely lay down their lives” each day by sacrificing for their children.  Even when they don’t want to listen, children must “hear our voice.”  Like Jesus, it is our job to “lead” our children to the Father.

MAY CROWNING OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY this Sunday at the 10:30 A.M. Mass.

FIRST COMMUNION next Sunday at the 10:30 Mass.  You may wish to allow room for relatives and friends and choose the 4:30 Saturday Mass or 8:30 on Sunday.

PARISH CONDOLENCES to the family of Josephine Haig, parishioner who recently died.  Your prayers are requested for the repose of her soul and for the family she leaves behind.  REQUIESCAT IN PACEM!

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT ENVELOPES:  We now have enough bids to send a request to the Diocese for permission to put on a new roof, but we cannot yet safely claim to have enough money for this project.  Please consider giving some extra money towards our new roof.  Capital Improvement envelopes are in the back of the church on the radiators next to the bulletins.

EASTER COLLECTION  -  $4,864.00
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT  -  $2,555.00 - Thank you for your sacrificial giving!

PILGRIMAGE AND DAY OF RECOLLECTION: Celebrate the 51st Anniversary of a “Pilgrimage and Day of Recollection” at Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, Ohio, Tuesday, May 12, 2009.  For more information and reservations call Cathy Lambert at 419-693-6451.

LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA: The CD’s available in the back of church are only $3.00 per CD. What a simple and inexpensive way to turn your car or van into a chapel, your gym into a classroom, or your home into a place where you fall in love with God.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: “Researchers Find Safer Methods to Reprogram Adult Stem Cells.”  This recent headline describing adult stem cell research that does not involve killing embryos join those announcing breakthroughs with adult stem cells from bone marrow, skin, and placentas.  Meanwhile the world of embryonic stem cell research keeps demanding more money while producing negligible results.
Suggested Prayers: For those who are involved in the abortion industry, that they may turn from death to life, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: In today’s gospel, the disciples recognized Jesus only after they ate with Him and touched Him.  Only then did their fear leave them.  Perhaps we would relieve anxiety in our homes if we touched more often and shared in more focused family meals.

CONGRATULATIONS to our young parishioners who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next Saturday at 12 noon at Rosary Cathedral.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: Commenting on Washington State voters’ approval of physician-assisted suicide, the State Medical Association voiced its opposition “because our training and experience in the practice of medicine directs us to heal and comfort, not to cause death."  NRL News, Nov-Dec., 2009.
Suggested Prayers:  That we may have greater respect for those who are weakened by age or illness, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Notice Jesus came into a house and said, “Peace be with you.”  Peace is not measured only by the noise levels in our home; it also depends on the levels of trust, acceptance, forgiveness and respect for one another.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

A BLESSED EASTER TO PARISHIONERS FROM FR. POGGEMEYER AND STAFF

DEAR PARISHIONERS:  HAPPY EASTER!  May the glory of the sacrificial love of God through the death and resurrection of His Son radiate powerfully in your lives throughout this season of Easter.  How right it was for us to sacrifice and do extra penance during Lent.  How appropriate it is for us now to take to heart and rejoice in the fact that the Resurrection has conquered our greatest enemy, death.  Many thanks to all of our parishioners who put extra time and resources into making our observance of Lent and Easter so beautiful: Musicians, altar boys, emcees, decorators, cleaners, etc., etc., etc.!

WELCOME & CONGRATULATIONS:  St. Joseph’s Parish gladly welcomes into the fullness of the Catholic Faith during the Easter Vigil, Rodney McHaffie.  Welcome and Congratulations!

CONGRATULATIONS to Paul Linder who has received 1st honors at Central Catholic High School.  Paul is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Brian Linder.  CONGRATULATIONS to Olivia Scarlett who has received 1st Honors at St Ursula.  Olivia is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Scarlett.

IS ST. JOSEPH PARISH IN YOUR WILL?

ABORTION: “In today’s world of medical technology and pain control, the understandable fear of pain and death as one faces the end of  their life should never lead to suicide – physician-assisted or otherwise.”  Jennifer Popic, J.D. Nrl News, Nov-Dec., 2008.
Suggested Prayer: That we may have the eyes to see the intrinsic value of every human life regardless of age or size or health, we pray.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Following Christ is not easy.  Like Jesus we will experience betrayal, denial, being ignored, falsely accused and left alone.  Even friends will “look on and afar.”  Family is the gift given to us so we never stand alone.  Being together is the stuff of holiness.

Remember Good Friday is a day of Fast & Abstinence.
